Leadership: The Rev. Benjamin King
The Rev. Benjamin King
Episcopal Chaplain at Harvard
Ben became Episcopal Chaplain at Harvard in the fall of 2005, after five years of ministry in a downtown Boston parish.
Born in Brighton, on the south coast of England, in 1974, Ben went to Cambridge University to study History and then to seminary there to study Theology. Ben was raised in the Church of England, and although he doesn't think we have to settle in the religious tradition we were brought up in, he believes that if we do, we should try hard to figure out what spiritual riches that tradition offers. He loves the opportunities for profound debate, meditative prayer and beautiful worship offered by the Anglican tradition as it is found in the Episcopal Church.
Ben was ordained in the Diocese of Massachusetts in 2000. Since coming to the US, Ben has attained a Master's in Theology at Harvard Divinity School (2001-03) and a Ph.D. in Theology at Durham University in the UK (2004-07). As well as teaching Theology, Ben writes books and articles on subjects relating to Anglicanism.
He loves the combination of reverence and laughter, thoughtfulness and fun, offered by the Episcopal Chaplaincy service at 5:30 p.m. on Sundays and the student meal afterwards.
As for hobbies, he is a fan of baseball – even though it just isn't cricket – and is fascinated by the history and culture of India.
