The Reverend Luther Zeigler
Episcopal Chaplain at Harvard

The Reverend Luther Zeigler comes to the Episcopal Chaplaincy at Harvard from the Diocese of Washington. He currently is the senior chaplain at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, where he is also Chair of the Philosophy and Religion Department and leads the school's service and outreach programs. Luther previously served as chaplain at Washington Episcopal School in Bethesda, Maryland, and taught at the St. Albans School for Boys in Washington, D.C. Since his ordination to the priesthood, he has also served as an associate at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in College Park, Maryland, which has an historic affiliation with the Episcopal/Anglican Campus Ministry at the University of Maryland.

Luther has published widely on topics of theology and education. His essays have appeared in the Anglican Theological Review, Oxford's Oral History Review, and in the recent anthology, Reasons for Being: The Character and Culture of Episcopal Schools, published by the National Association of Episcopal Schools. He is a member of the Governing Board of the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association.

Luther graduated with Highest Honors in Religion from Oberlin College, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He holds a master's degree in Religious Studies from Stanford University and is also a cum laude graduate of the Stanford Law School, where he served as an associate editor of the Stanford Law Review. Luther completed his theological training at Virginia Theological Seminary, from which he received his Master of Divinity degree with honors.

For many years prior to his ordination, Luther practiced law at a major Washington law firm, where he was a partner and member of the firm's Management Board. At the firm, he had an active public service practice, particularly in the areas of civil rights and advocating for the homeless. He served on the Board of the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and represented a wide range of pro bono clients, including the Children's Defense Fund, the Volunteers of America, the NAACP, the Georgetown University Sex Discrimination Clinic, as well as numerous other public interest groups and indigent individuals. He brings a passion for social justice issues to his ministry.

Luther and his wife, Pat, have two adult daughters, one of whom lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area and one of whom lives in Boston and works for the Red Sox. Luther and Pat bring with them to Cambridge a Labradoodle named Grace, who was born six years ago on Easter morning.
