Christ Church Cambridge

A Farewell Message From the Harvard Chaplain

Posted on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Dear All, It is a bittersweet thing for me to announce that I will not be returning next academic year as Episcopal Chaplain at Harvard. Recently I accepted the post of Chaplain and Tutor at Oriel College Oxford, effective from September 1. In taking this position, I look forward to combining my commitment to chaplaincy work with the opportunity to teach church history to Oxford undergraduates. At the same time, I am sad to be leaving Cambridge after only one year. I have been deeply grateful to the whole Christ Church community for welcoming me back into its midst and for allowing me to participate in its communal life and worship. I want to offer my particular thanks to Joe, Jonathan, and the whole church staff, who have encouraged and supported me so generously during my time as Chaplain. Christ Church has been a Christian home to me on and off since I was four years old. This past year has once again confirmed for me its constancy in my own life, even as I have been privileged to observe the ways it continues to grow and evolve. For all that this place has been, is now, and yet will be, I give God much thanks. And you can be sure I will be back to visit! Robert Tobin
