Choral Evensong in Eastertide is the final Evening Prayer for the season: Sunday, May 2 at 4:00 p.m. Please join us for Evening Prayer on Sunday, May 2. Being the final Choral Evensong service of the season, some of the choral music will be a little longer than usual. The prelude will begin at 3:55 p.m. with the central movement of the sixth symphony by Charles Marie Widor (1844-1937). The choir will sing a beautiful setting of O gracious light by Harold Darke (1888-1976) to lead into the Opening Sentences, Confession and Absolution. The Preces and Responses will be a contemporary set, acquired during Stuart's sabbatical, composed by Antony Baldwin (b. 1957) for the choir at St. Thomas Church in New York. The canticles will be the setting in E major by Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1976), who also composed the postlude, Choral Song and Fugue. A highlight of the service will be the extended anthem, Lo, the full, final, Sacrifice, featuring a stunning text from Richard Crashaw's versions of the Hymns of St. Thomas Aquinas (c. 1224-1275), Adoro Te and Lauda Sion Salvatorem, perfectly set to music by Gerald Finzi (1901-1956). A festive reception is being prepared by Susan Root and the Hospitality Committee. All are warmly invited.
