Christ Church Cambridge is housed in the oldest church building in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The church is located in Harvard Square, by Cambridge Common. We are a vibrant parish; diverse in membership and filled with activities for everyone from infants (infant child care is always available Sunday mornings) to toddlers (Children's Chapel) to school aged children (Sunday School and Youth Choir) to teens (Youth Group and Youth Choir) to adults (EdBlock following the 10:00 service & education offerings throughout the year).
The Church was founded in 1759 to provide Church of England services to students at the young Harvard College across Cambridge Common. Since the end of the Revolution (during which the church building was closed and its organ melted down for bullets) the church has continued to be open to the community. The doors, even today, remain open daily, welcoming people from early morning to evening. Join us in our weekly worship, visit us here on the web, or drop by for a quiet time of prayer and meditation during the week. Christ Church always welcomes you!

Christ Church was designed by the famed architect, Peter Harrison, who created the building to be taken apart and enlarged when the fledgling congregation outgrew the smaller structure. Almost one hundred years after it's dedication, the church was cut in half and enlarged by the size of two windows, the box pews were replaced by stall pews using the timbers from the earlier arrangement, and two extra columns were added on each side of the church to support the roof.
Generations of Harvard students, from Richard Henry Dana (Two Years Before the Mast) to Teddy Roosevelt (who was asked not to continue as a Sunday School teacher because he would not become an Episcopalian) have made Christ Church their parish home during their studies. While in Cambridge to take command of the Continental Army, George Washington joined his wife, Martha, for a service at Christ Church on New Years Eve. One of our most treasured events was the presence of Martin Luther King in 1968. He and Dr. Benjamin Spock, denied space in other quarters, held a press conference in the Parish Hall where they first proclaimed their opposition to the Vietnam War and formally joined the anti-war movement of the time.
